SLLEEPdotnet (2018 - 2021)
As a chronic insomniac, sleep had forced its way into a prominent role in my practice during graduate school. My graduating thesis project at Portland State University (Sorry to See You So Soon, 2019), SLLEEPdotnet, is an experimental digital / physical artwork that attempted to curate both the time involved in, the content produced by, and the spirit of my insomnia. Imminently site nonspecific, it served as a modular space for me to log data, meditate on it, and direct negative energies into positive outcomes (or vice versa). It was a place to go during a time of the night that normally felt like a trap. The result was a giant introverted mess that rarely went for more than a few days without changing form. While the end result is now frozen, any fluid elements along the way were either witnessed at the time as performance, or lost altogether. While I emphasized this aspect of the work, all artworks go from ideation, through a process, and end up in a certain state.
You can find a deeper dive on this project in both its online and installed incarnations through my MFA Graduate Project Statement, which is available as a PDF below.
While the project was concluded in late 2021, making the above document quite out of date both logically and philosophically, the website is still available for viewing at https://loworbit.neocities.org/slleepdotnet. There was an Instagram component that could found at @slleepdotnet, but is now defunct.
Below you will find snapshots from the exhibition as well as a video that featured prominently in the installation.
